The hosts finished in last season in 12th place, gaining 46 points, the same number, as Stoke and Bolton, and only 3 points behind the 8th place. Kevin Nolan was leading goalscorer, who scored 12 goals.
I think we all remember Our last season so once again we won't talk about it. Let me just say that our best goalscorer was Van Persie, who scored 22 goals, two of which are on the St. James Park.
Past meetings
In last season in the Premier League Newcastle was inconvenient rival for, "Magpies" take away 5 points from us or we gifted 5 points to them. You may think and talk what you want about it. On the Emirates We lost 1-0, thanks to Fabianski error after which Carroll scored header. The 2nd game ended with draw 4-4, again I won't talk about it, we all remember it. But in the League Cup, we defeated Newcastle at their stadium 4-0.
In overall history of rivarility of oposition teams Newcastle have a small advantage, 66 wins against 65. In the League we have 57 wins against 62 of Newcastle. 37 matches ended with a draw.
Transfer campaign
Newcastle follow our example and this summer they signed a five French-speaking players, three of whom they got for free. French midfielder Abed Mehdi came from Lens, he playing for France U19. Johan Kabaye moved from the Lille for 4 million pounds. They get Sylvain Marweaux and Demba Ba also got free, last season they played Rennes" and West Ham". Also, for 3 millions has been signed Gabriel Obertan from Man Utd.
Some players left the team such as Sol Campbell, who's still free agent and we can sign him for free (!!!), Shefki Kuqi, Wayne Routletge and other players from Reserves. But most massive lose is Kevin Nolan, ex-captain and leader of Magpies of last years, moved to London and Championship. He'll play for West Ham. Also future of Joe Barton under the doubts. He refused to sign new contract this summer and on 1st of August Newcastle put him on transfer. Another chance to take player for free! Wake Up Arsene!!! Jose Enrique should pass his medical at Liverpool, so he'll miss game probably.
Our Transfer Campaign - another sore point for us now. We're still not sign new centre back, new left back after Clichy departure hasn't signed and I doubt that LB will sign. Questions about Na$ri and Fabregas are still open. Na$ri obviously wants to leave the club, according to comments Chamakh, Blanc. But seems both will leave team, probably this week. Almunia, Bendtner and Ebue are currently in talks with other clubs.
Newcommers in team are right-back Carl Jenkinson who joined from Charlton, Gervinho signed from Lille, and promising youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who came from the Southampton. It was announced this week. Also Ryo Myaichi joined 1st team, he received permit required for work in the UK. Wenger commented as follows: "its like new signing". In the coming weeks, I hope, will see a new CB and in the case of withdrawal of players worthy replacement.

Good news that almost all players are fit. Diaby and Wilshere both will miss the game. Frenchman will not play before the end of September. Jack should be back soon, according to Wenger. And I really hope that it's soon, not like Rosicky and Vermaelen.

Fabregas and Na$ri both will miss the trip. But I think we won't see both of them in Arsenal shirt again. According to some sources Cesc trained last time with Arsenal today.
